Same garden different flowers.

We, Emily Stone and Diana Bloom are sisters for those of you who may not be aware. We collaborated to create our first ever publication A World Divided.

While both of us have the ability to stand alone as authors in our own right, we are far more successful as a team. We share ideas and concepts to create a cohesive story that we can confidently share with the world.

There is an African proverb quoted at the beginning of our book that states

“If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together”

This statement holds so much truth for us as a duet of authors and as sisters who have survived working together to publish a book. We have been asked time and again how did you not kill each other in the process. And while the answer is boring, it’s the truth. We understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses and we shared a drive to go the distance. We chose to go far not fast. So together we embarked on the publication journey.

This brings me to the point of this particular blog. We finally saw fit to get matching tattoos. The thing is, although we are sisters and we complement each other, we are different as different can be. Everything from our appearance to our likes and dislikes over food, books, clothes and men. In spite of all of those differences we came from the exact same family.

“Sisters are different flowers from the same garden” this quote inspired us to display on our bodies the testament to our bond as sisters as well as the truth that it represents. And true to our nature to do things our own way we altered the quote a little and picked flowers that represented our uniqueness.

Diana chose to represent members of our family with flowers from each of their birth months. Recognising her roots and those who built the foundation she grew up on.

Lilly of the Valley for our Maternal Grandmother

Iris for our Mother and our Paternal Grandfather

Gladiolus for our Father and our Maternal Grandfather

Aster for our Paternal Grandmother

Emily chose to represent herself and all she stands for, standing on the same platform and going further encompassing the big picture.

Lilly of the Valley for our Maternal Grandmother ( I am our Paternal Grandmothers name sake)

Cosmos for Husband, God Parents and the Universe

Hibiscus for its beauty, respect, power and royalty

Ivy for its strength, resilience and determination

All these flowers represent elements of our personality that speak volumes to our connection to our families and our beliefs. And as the quote states we come from the same garden but we are a plethora of different flowers.

Share your thoughts and tattoo ideas with us in the comments. What do your tattoos mean if you have them.

Signing off
